La Cadenède is an antique fortified farm of the Templar period. The word "Cadenede" (cadeneda in Occitan language) means the place planted with junipers. A title dated from 1289 specifies that the Mas of the Cadeneda was belonging to the Saint Pierre de Brocuéjouls parish, lovely roman chapel of the 9th century that you can see today not far from our house and just near the Millau viaduct.
Seigneurial property during middle age with its defensive donjon and its corner towers, La Cadenède becomes then a farm. During the 17th century, François de Courtines, tax collector of Millau, creates the inner Renaissance yard with bow windows. You will find his coat of arms above the fireplace.
Now restored, La Cadenède combines antique charm and every modern convenience. From this historical house, you will appreciate the wide overview on Larzac plate, the city of Millau and the famous Millau viaduct, the highest viaduct of the world , wonderfully lightened during the night.
In La Cadenède, you will enjoy peace and quiet of our shadowy garden or may prefer go hiking to the Brocuéjouls roman chapel, Soulobres village, the GR62 or Peyre village belonging to the "Plus beaux villages de France" and its cave dwelling church. La Cadenède is also a good place to discover the Grands Causses (Larzac, Mejean, Causse Noir, Causse du Sauveterre, Levezou and Causse Rouge), and the Gorges du Tarn, Gorges de la Jonte and Gorges de la Dourbie and their numerous tourist appeals.
